4 Ways to work with Capricorn Energy

capricorn energy

This whole series is about how to harness the energy of the Zodiac signs to make changes and improve the quality of our lives. I’ve decided to jump straight into the four ways to work with Capricorn energy, although I’ve included more fun facts toward the end.

4 ways to work with Capricorn energy

Lets talk about Capricorn.

Capricorn rules from about December 22 through to January 19th

Its no surprise that New Years brings up all the talk about life altering changes and New Years Resolutions. The Capricorn energy of the season begs all of us to consider our long term goals and a plan to achieve them; especially goals related to health, finance, and career.
It speaks to our own inner authority, career or life’s work, as well as long-term plans that support our security or sense of order.

Capricorn is a Cardinal sign ruled by the element of Earth. The cardinal position just indicates that we will be taking control of our desires and trying to make changes in our life. Cardinal energy starts inside us and moves outward to impact our environment.

The Earth alignment put focus on the physical world. Our focus leans toward our physical bodies and our physical comfort and security. Capricorn specifically is focused on the BIG Picture.

Exercise

I know its cliche, but exercise is a great start. Everyone has weight loss and exercise goals at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, by February, most people have abandoned their gym membership and blew their diet.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother to set a “Healthy Body” goal. It’s still an important goal to set and I think this is probably the best time of year to start developing new routines and healthier habits.

When making changes (anytime of the year) start small and gradually add on.
For example, part of my healthy body goal included drinking more water, (the kind that’s not filtered through coffee grounds).

During the first week of Capricorn, I made a point to drink at least one glass a day. By the second week I realized it was actually easy to drink 3 glasses a day without thinking about it too much. At the end of week 3, I started making a conscious decision to add another glass.

At this point I’ve developed a habit. There are certain times in my day when I just grab for a glass of water. I feel better, physically and have more focus during the day. It’ll be easy for me to continue on with this change. I may not be drinking the recommended 64 ounces of water but it’s more than I have been and still benefits my health.

Personal Finance

Focusing on money management is another great topic to harness during Capricorn energy. Capricorn is seriously concerned about security and the value of planning for the long term. Taking a course in personal finance (or just reading some well written articles or books) is a great way to research the small changes you can make.

Every January The Renaissance Man researches stocks and investments. I laugh because I know it’s Capricorns influence.

Maybe you want a special savings account or to waste less money on impulse purchases (bonus – that money can go into your savings). Make sure you know WHY you want this. The WHY is going to be your motivation.

Develop a plan. Set a goal and decide how you’re going to achieve it. Then get in the habit of working the plan. I think it’s important to recognize that you won’t always be able to stick to your plan. It’s okay. It doesn’t mean you should scrap it altogether

I have a goal of saving a certain amount of money every month. This money comes directly from our income. But guess what, some months we just can’t. Things come up. The furnace broke, the gas bill was too high, someone needed to see the doctor. Sh!t happens.

It doesn’t mean that I abandon my savings goal. The next month I still put the money in, or maybe we receive magic money* a few months later and I add that to savings instead of blowing it on crap we don’t need. The goal is still intact, the plan is always flexible.

*Magic money is what we call the money received unexpectedly-like refunds, gifts, etc. Or money we don’t consider in our everyday expenses such as bonuses or settlements etc.

Life’s Work/ Career

Next consider your life’s work. Capricorn rules the 10th house of work and career so it only makes sense that this would be a focus. Now is the time to make those tweaks in your work life.

Maybe you want a promotion, maybe you feel the urge to switch careers. Now is the time to make a plan for that. What kind of preparation is necessary? Find out.

Also, it’s important to remember that your life’s work isn’t necessarily your career or job. Sometimes it’s you passion project, your charity work or what you do to make the world a better place.

Making long term goals and action plans for this part of your life will help you to focus on making it a priority which will, in turn, make your life feel more meaningful.

Organize your Life

If all of these seem a little overwhelming because your plate is already full, don’t fret. You can scale it back. Work with the Capricorn energy to tweak your own schedule.

Get yourself a planner if you don’t have one already (I have this Happy Planner from MAMBI)
Start filling in your priorities. I break my goals into 5 different sections; Home, Family, Finance, Work, Self-care. Then I add each action step into my months and weeks. I make sure I get the important stuff in first. Then Every week I update it, tweaking as I go.

I use Capricorn energy to figure out my goals for everything, but I always start my habit tracking and small changes in my health, finance and work categories. I spend the month tweaking my schedule to place these three in and then working everything else around it.
By the time Aquarius Season comes around, I’ve got a habit going and it’ll take a pretty big shake up to get me to abandon it.

So now you have a rough overview on how to use Capricorn energy. Go Harness those stars and ride your way to a successful new year!

The Myth Behind Capricorn

Capricorn is related to Pan, the God of wilderness and rustic music who had the legs of a goat and played a flute. In one story, a gathering of the Gods was interrupted by the monster, Typhon. In fear all the gods changed shape and scattered. Pan jumped in a river, his back legs turning into a tail and his body into that of a goat, hoping to scare the monster with his appearance.

In another myth, Zeus was aided by a goat that made a horn, found in the sea and used it to frighten away the Titans.
